TBA Cricket League 2021
Tax Bar Association, Guwahati in association with Royal Global University and Royal Global School organized TBA Cricket League, 2021 on Saturday 13 February and Sunday 14 February, 2021 at Royal Global School Playground, Guwahati. Altogether 8 teams participated in the league. 2 teams of TBA – TBA Thunders and TBA Lions and one team each from ICAI, ICSI, CGST, SGST, Customs and Income Tax Departments and one team from ICSI. The teams were divided into two Groups and League matches were played between the teams of the group. Top two teams from each group qualified for Semifinals and the winners of the semifinals played in the finals.
The league started with the opening ceremony on 13 February in which CS Amit Pareek, Secretary of the Association welcomed all the teams and participants. Sri S. Kannan, Chief Commissioner of CGST, Customs and Central Excise was the Chief Guest and Sri Ashutosh Awasthi, Principal Commissioner of CGST was the Guest of Honour. Chief Guest Sri S. Kannan was felicitated with traditional Assamese Phulam Gamosha and Japi by the President of Tax Bar Association CA Gopal Singhania. CA Vivek Jalan felicitated Guest of Honour Sri Ashutosh Awasthi. CS Chandra Shekhar Sharma felicitated CA Sharad Agarwala, Chairman of Guwahati Branch of EIRC of ICAI. Chief guest Sri Kannan expressed his happiness about the event and hoped that the event would create a felling of brotherhood and harmony amongst the tax professionals and tax administrators. Guest of Honour Sri Awasthi also expressed similar views and both the guests congratulated the Association on organizing the event annually.
In Group A, the 1st League match was played between TBA Thunders and SGST Bulls in which TBA Thunders won by huge margin of 50 runs. CA Neeraj Bafna of TBA Thunders was declared Man of the Match. 2nd league match between CA Avengers and CGST Champs was easily won by CGST Champs by 9 wickets. Abhas Baidyanathan of CGST Champs bagged Man of the Match. 3rd league match between TBA Thunders and CA Avengers was won by TBA Thunders by 20 runs. CA Raj Bajaj of TBA Thunders was Man of the Match. 4th league match between SGST Bulls and CGST Champs was won by CGST Champs by 42 runs. Bikram Kumar of CGST Champs was Man of the match. 5th League match between TBA Thunders and CGST Champs was a close fight which was won by CGST Champs only by 2 runs. Abhas Baidyanathan of CGST Champs again bagged Man of the Match. 6th league match between CA Avengers and SGST Bulls was won by CA Avengers by a huge margin of 67 runs. CA Prateek Binani of CA Avengers was the man of the match. CGST Champs and TBA Thunders qualified for the semifinals.
In Group B, the 1st League match was played between TBA Lions and Customs Fighters in which TBA Lions won by 23 runs. CA Vijay Agarwal of TBA Lions was declared Man of the Match. 2nd league match between CS Warriors and IT Cricket Kings was won by CS Warriors by 7 wickets. CS Harshit Jain of CS Warriors bagged Man of the Match. 3rd league match between TBA Lions and CS Warriors was won by CS Warriors by 7 wickets. CS Balwant Singh of CS Warriors was Man of the Match. 4th league match between Customs Fighters and IT Cricket Kings was won by Customs Fighters by 11 runs. Rohit Hooda of Customs Fighters was Man of the match. 5th League match between TBA Lions and IT Cricket Kings was a one sided match which was won by TBA Lions by 10 wickets. CA Subhash Surana of TBA Lions bagged Man of the Match. 6th league match between CS Warriors and Customs Fighters was won by CS Warriors by 33 runs. CS Balwant Singh of CS Warriors was again the man of the match. CS Warriors and TBA Lions qualified for the semifinals.
1st Semi final was played between TBA Lions and CGST Champs in which CGST Champs easily won by 7 wickets. Alok Ranjan of CGST Champs bagged Man of the Match. 2nd Semi final was played between TBA Thunders and CS Warriors in which TBA Thunders won by 28 runs. CA Manas Jain of TBA Thunders bagged Man of the Match. Final match between TBA Thunders and CGST Champs was the most thrilling match of the League. Batting first, TBA Thunders scored 162 runs in 12 overs for loss of 3 wickets. CGST Champs achieved the target in 10.4 overs and won the League finals by 7 wickets. Bikram Kumar of CGST Champs was Man of the Match.
CA Neeraj Bafna of TBA Thunders bagged the award for Best Batsman of the League and Morrisson Ngairangbam of CGST Champs bagged Best Bowler of the League award. CA Raj Bajaj of TBA Thunders was also declared Best Player of the League.
All the awards and trophies were given in the closing ceremony held on 14 February in which Sri Raju Tayeng, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax was the Chief Guest and Dr. Ashok Kumar Pansari, Chairman of Royal Global School was the Guest of Honour. Chief Guest Sri Tayeng was felicitated with traditional Assamese Phulam Gamosha and Japi by the President of Tax Bar Association CA Gopal Singhania. He also felicitated Guest of Honour Dr. Pansari. CS Chandra Shekhar Sharma felicitated CS Kushal Bharat Bagadia, Chairman of NE Chapter of ICSI. All the players of winners and runners up teams were given medals and trophies were given to the Winners and Runners up teams by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. Both Sri Tayeng and Dr. Pansari appreciated the efforts of Tax Bar Association in organizing the cricket league.
President of the Association CA Gopal Singhania expressed gratitude to Dr. Ashok Kumar Pansari and the management of Royal Global University and Royal Global School for providing the playground, food and other facilities for smoothly organizing the cricket league. He also thanked all the teams and players for their whole-hearted support and co-operation. He further stated that this was the second cricket tournament of its type in which teams of all the tax departments and tax professionals played together. He further added that the Association also plans to organise indoor games on the same scale in the coming month. He also thanked the members of the Organizing Committee CA Vivek Jalan, CS Chandra Shekhar Sharma, CA Neeraj Bafna and Advocate Brajesh Kumar Sharma for their efforts in successfully organizing the cricket league. The League was appreciated by all the departments and all the viewers present in the field. It was also tracked live by many on Cricheroes App.
